When Waves Collide is a French instrumental post‑rock band known for maintaining a deliberately low public profile. The group shares only limited information online, which has contributed to an air of mystery surrounding their origins and development. The band was founded in early 2017 by three musicians from Paris: guitarists Adrien Deurveilher and Romain Fortané, and bassist Timothée Valentini. In 2019, drummer Andrea Gallo joined the lineup, marking the beginning of the band’s live activity. That same year, they released their debut recording, the EP simply titled EP 1. Their album CHASM presents a conceptual narrative centered on a civilization facing collapse. The cause—whether human‑made or geological—is left intentionally ambiguous. The storyline follows humanity’s struggle to endure repeated catastrophes, capturing both the despair of destruction and the resilience required to rebuild. The band expresses these themes through immersive instrumental compositions that reflect emotions such as perseverance, tragedy, and individual hope. CHASM is an instrumental work with a notably concise running time of approximately 30 minutes. Although the band reportedly composed a larger amount of material, they chose to refine the album to its most impactful elements. The result is a focused and cohesive listening experience that maintains intensity throughout its duration. The music is dynamic, atmospheric and consistently engaging, demonstrating the band’s commitment to quality over quantity. See for more.
