Spin was a Dutch jazz‑rock group formed in 1976 as a continuation of the band Ekseption. The group was founded by Rein van den Broek and included fellow Ekseption members Hans Hollestelle, Hans Jansen, Jan Vennik, as well as rhythm‑section musicians Jan Hollestelle and Cees Kranenburg. After releasing two albums, the band eventually disbanded. In 1975, Ekseption decided to take a break due to internal tensions, disagreements about musical direction, and the lack of commercial success. In 1976, at the initiative of Rein van den Broek, a new group was formed consisting of musicians who had already been holding jam sessions together for five years. Spin moved in a different musical direction than Ekseption: the classical influences that had defined their predecessor were replaced by a stronger focus on jazz elements.
