GRU is a progressive jazz‑metal project from Wybierz, Poland, founded in 2009. The project is led solely by multi‑instrumentalist Piotrek Gruszka, who composes and performs all material. GRU’s sound blends elements of djent with jazz‑influenced harmony and phrasing, setting it apart from much of the modern djent scene. The debut full‑length album, Cosmogensis, was released in 2010. Gruszka’s musical approach draws inspiration from a wide range of progressive and experimental artists, including Fredrik Thordendal, Allan Holdsworth, Tool, Dream Theater, Cynic, and other innovators within progressive metal and fusion.
