Junipher Greene is a Norwegian progressive‑rock and hard‑rock band formed in Oslo in 1966. The group was active until 1983 and reunited in 2008 for a series of live performances. They are regarded as one of the earliest progressive‑rock acts in Norway. The original lineup featured Bent Åserud (guitars, keyboards, flute, vocals), Geir Bøhren (vocals, drums, saxophone), Helge Grøslie (keyboards), Freddy Dahl (guitar, vocals) and Øyvind Vilbo (bass). Their debut album, Friendship, released in 1971, is considered one of the first progressive‑rock albums in Norway and is notable for being the country’s first double LP. Junipher Greene was regarded as one of Norway’s leading progressive‑rock groups of the early 1970s, alongside bands such as Ruphus and Høst. Their second album, Communication, appeared in 1973. By this time, Helge Grøslie and Freddy Dahl had left the band, leading to changes in the group’s musical direction. Two compilation albums followed: Best Of (1975) and Rewind (1981), the latter containing previously unreleased material recorded between 1969 and 1980. In 1982, the band released Forbudte formiddagstoner, featuring Norwegian‑language lyrics and marking their final studio album before disbanding. After the group’s dissolution, Bøhren and Åserud continued to work together and became well‑known composers of Norwegian film soundtracks, achieving significant success in that field.
