Mythopoeic Mind is a Norwegian progressive rock project led by Steinar Børve, known as the saxophonist of the avant‑rock band Panzerpappa. The group brings together a collective of musicians: Pål Selsjord Bjørseth – keyboards, trumpet, Ola Mile Bruland – fretless bass, double bass, euphonium, Steinar Børve – saxophones, EWI, keyboards, backing vocals, programming, Trond Gjellum – drums, percussion, programming, Veronika Hørven Jensen – lead and backing vocals, Anders K. Krabberød – electric and acoustic guitars. The roots of Mythopoeic Mind go back to 1997, when Steinar composed music inspired by poems and scenes from The Lord of the Rings. This early work, titled Songs from the Red Book of Westmarch, was performed at the second Nordic Tolkien Festival with the help of an enthusiastic ensemble that included drummer Trond Gjellum. One year later, Steinar and Trond co‑founded Panzerpappa together with Jørgen Skjulstad and Knut Tore Abrahamsen. Although the Tolkien‑inspired piece was well received, it was never recorded or performed again. Over the years, Steinar accumulated musical ideas that did not fit within Panzerpappa’s stylistic boundaries. Inspired by a renewed wave of creativity in the Norwegian progressive rock scene, he decided in 2016 to begin shaping a project rooted in symphonic rock and Canterbury‑style influences.
