Trees of Eternity

Trees of Eternity was a Swedish metal band from Örebro, formed in 2009 as a collaboration between Finnish guitarist Juha Raivio and South African‑born Swedish vocalist Aleah Stanbridge. Raivio, known as the guitarist of Swallow the Sun, first worked with Stanbridge during the recording of the band’s 2009 album New Moon. The two met while working on the track “Lights on the Lake”, and during the sessions they formed Trees of Eternity, eventually becoming romantic partners as well. The band completed recording their debut album in 2014, joined by former Katatonia members Fredrik Norrman (guitar) and Mattias Norrman (bass), along with drummer Kai Hahto, formerly of Wintersun and Swallow the Sun. In 2012, Trees of Eternity signed a publishing deal with AMF Music, led by Andy Farrow, known for managing bands such as Paradise Lost, Opeth and Devin Townsend. Tragically, Aleah Stanbridge passed away from cancer in 2016, before the album could be released. Their debut, Hour of the Nightingale, was ultimately issued seven months later as a posthumous tribute. Trees of Eternity’s music has been described as gothic doom metal and death‑doom, characterized by atmospheric arrangements and Stanbridge’s ethereal, angelic vocals.
