Drowning Steps

Drowning Steps is a Brazilian symphonic progressive rock project led by musicians Caio Claro and Tiago Pierucci. The duo combines classic 1970s progressive influences with modern production and contemporary symphonic elements. Their work blends atmospheric passages, melodic development and dynamic contrasts, ranging from delicate acoustic sections to more powerful and expansive arrangements. The music of Drowning Steps is characterized by: symphonic and melodic structures, extended compositions of medium to long duration, a blend of softer, reflective passages and heavier, more forceful moments, clear inspiration from 1970s progressive rock, combined with modern textures. To realize their musical ideas, Claro and Pierucci collaborate with a variety of guest musicians, expanding the project’s sound beyond the core duo. Their second album, The Echo of a Distant Past, was released on 21 February 2020. The record features six tracks that explore a wide range of moods and symphonic arrangements. The album continues the project’s focus on expressive keyboard layers, melodic guitar work and dynamic shifts, reflecting both classic prog traditions and contemporary influences. Drowning Steps positions itself within the symphonic and melodic branch of progressive rock, emphasizing atmosphere, emotional expression and detailed instrumental interplay. Their music appeals to listeners who appreciate the intersection of vintage prog aesthetics and modern sound design.
