Tokyo Groove Jyoshi

Tokyo Groove Jyoshi (TGJ) is an all‑female jazz‑funk groove band formed in 2018 in Tokyo by producer Koichi Kaneko (Neko). The group is made up of top‑tier Japanese session musicians and is known for its energetic blend of jazz, funk, and contemporary groove music. The current lineup features Emi Kanazashi (keyboards/vocals), MiMi Kawakami (drums/vocals), and Rina Hoshino (bass/vocals). TGJ aims to create a powerful, feel‑good sound that crosses boundaries of generation, gender, and genre, appealing to a wide and diverse audience. In February 2020, the band traveled to New York City, performing at several well‑known jazz venues including Bitter End, Shrine, Sugar Bar, Groove, and Café Wha?. Their performances caught the attention of producer Ray Angry, who invited them back for additional shows — leading to a period where the band performed almost nightly. Tokyo Groove Jyoshi has toured extensively throughout Japan, appearing at festivals and jazz clubs across the country. In 2023, the band expanded its international presence with performances in Taiwan (Sound Wave Festival) and Singapore, where they headlined the inaugural Sentosa Music Festival’s “Jazz by the Cove.”
