Galen Weston is a Canadian jazz guitarist based in Toronto, recognized for his contemporary sound, polished tone and technically adept playing. His work blends elements of modern jazz with rock‑influenced phrasing, contributing to a distinctive musical identity within the Canadian jazz scene. Weston began playing guitar at the age of eleven, starting on a basic Sears acoustic model. Determined to acquire an electric guitar, he saved money for two years until he could purchase one himself. Once equipped with the instrument he truly wanted, Weston immersed himself in practice and experimentation, often spending up to ten hours a day refining his technique. Raised in a household without television and with parents who discouraged rock music, Weston discovered bands such as AC/DC and KISS independently. At fifteen he joined his first band, performing at small local events in his hometown of Freelton, a rural community of roughly 500 residents. As he approached the end of high school, Weston began exploring new musical directions. After learning that jazz could be studied formally, he sought guidance from an older musician who introduced him to the genre by giving him two boxes of jazz records. This collection proved formative: artists such as Mike Stern, Weather Report and Pat Metheny became central influences and played a significant role in shaping his later artistic development.
