Giant Sky is a Norwegian progressive rock project founded in 2020 by Erlend Viken, known as the founder, composer, and keyboardist of the band Soup. Conceived as a parallel creative outlet, the project brought together a wide circle of contributing musicians and collaborators. Recording for the debut album took place between January and May 2020. The self‑titled release, presented as a conceptual work, was issued on June 4, 2021. The album features an expansive cast of guest performers, reflecting Viken’s intention to create a broad, atmospheric sound world distinct from his work with Soup. Giant Sky’s music blends elements of post‑rock, progressive rock, and cinematic sound design, emphasizing mood, texture, and layered arrangements.
