Leonid & Friends

Leonid and Friends is a Chicago tribute band based in Moscow. The group began as a YouTube project and now tours extensively across the United States during the spring and fall. The band was founded and is led by Leonid Vorobyev (born November 7, 1954, in Moscow), a multi‑instrumentalist, recording‑studio sound engineer and trained choir conductor who studied at the East Siberian Institute of Culture. Vorobyev created the band’s first Chicago video, a cover of “Brand New Love Affair”, in 2014. With Ukrainian vocalist Serge Tiagniryadno, the band’s YouTube videos gained widespread attention, accumulating millions of views. Leonid & Friends have released three Chicago tribute albums under the title Chicagovich. After touring in Russia, the band made its first U.S. tour in 2019. Beginning in 2018, they expanded their repertoire to include songs by Earth, Wind & Fire, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Tower of Power, The Ides of March, Lighthouse and Steely Dan. In 2022, their cover of Rufus and Chaka Khan’s “Ain’t Nobody”, featuring Ksenia Buzina, was added to the setlist. Leonid Vorobyev’s son, Roman Vorobyev (born 1991), serves as the band’s manager. The group’s instrumental lineup includes bass and lead guitars, drums, keyboards, saxophone, trumpet and trombone, with occasional additions such as flugelhorn, French horn, flute, metal clarinet, cello, violin and various percussion instruments.
