The Magpie Salute was an American rock band formed in 2016 by guitarist Rich Robinson following the breakup of The Black Crowes. The lineup included former Black Crowes members Marc Ford and Sven Pipien, along with vocalist John Hogg (of Moke), keyboardist Matt Slocum, and drummer Joe Magistro, both of whom had previously worked with Robinson. Vocalists Adrien Reju and Katrine Ottosen from Robinson’s solo band also joined the project. Robinson announced the formation of The Magpie Salute in October 2016. Hogg — known for his work with Moke and as Robinson’s songwriting partner in Hookah Brown — had supported Robinson on his 2015 European and UK tour. Their collaboration continued with the band’s first single, “Omission,” featuring Hogg’s soulful vocals and lyrical contributions. The announcement of the band followed a series of 2016 shows in Woodstock, New York, where Robinson performed with Ford, Pipien and former Black Crowes keyboardist Eddie Harsch. Harsch was expected to tour with the group but died suddenly in November 2016; his appearance on their self‑titled debut album became his final recording. The Magpie Salute performed their first concerts in January 2017 at the Gramercy Theatre in New York City. Initially scheduled for three shows, a fourth was added due to high demand. Their setlists included songs from The Black Crowes as well as material from Robinson’s and Ford’s solo careers.
