GoGo Penguin

GoGo Penguin is an English jazz‑fusion trio from Manchester, featuring pianist Chris Illingworth, double bassist Nick Blacka, and drummer Jon Scott. Formed in 2012, the group has built a distinctive sound shaped by acoustic jazz, electronic influences, and minimalist rhythmic patterns. As of 2026, their discography includes seven studio albums, two EPs, and three live recordings. The trio emerged in Manchester in 2012 and released their debut album Fanfares later that year, earning strong critical praise. Their second album, v2.0 (2014), expanded their audience and was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize for Album of the Year. In 2015, GoGo Penguin signed with Blue Note Records, leading to the release of Man Made Object in 2016. They continued their momentum with A Humdrum Star in 2018 and their self‑titled album GoGo Penguin in 2020. On 6 December 2021, the band announced that founding drummer Rob Turner had stepped down, with Jon Scott joining as his replacement. That same year they issued the remix project GGP/RMX. The band followed with Everything Is Going to Be OK in 2023 and Necessary Fictions in 2025.
