Zero 7 is an English musical duo consisting of Henry Binns and Sam Hardaker, formed in 1997. Their debut album, Simple Things (2001), brought them widespread recognition, with the single “Destiny” remaining in the UK Singles Chart Top 100. Subsequent albums include When It Falls, The Garden, and Yeah Ghost. After studying sound engineering, Binns and Hardaker began their careers in the 1990s at RAK Studios in London, working as engineers for artists such as Pet Shop Boys, Young Disciples, and Robert Plant. In 1997, they created a remix of Radiohead’s “Climbing Up the Walls”, marking the first use of the name Zero 7. They also provided additional programming on “Meeting in the Aisle”, a B‑side to Karma Police, and Binns received a sampling credit on Kid A. The duo later produced remixes for Terry Callier, Lenny Kravitz, Sneaker Pimps, and Lambchop. The name Zero 7 was inspired by a bar called Cero Siete on the Honduran island of Utila, where Binns and Hardaker had spent time. After returning to the UK, they were asked by Radiohead to remix “Climbing Up the Walls”. They titled their version “the Zero 7 Mix”, and the name became permanent.
