Big Big Train are an English progressive rock band formed in Bournemouth in 1990. The current lineup includes founding member Gregory Spawton (bass, guitars, keyboards), along with Nick D’Virgilio (drums, vocals, guitars, keyboards), Rikard Sjöblom (guitars, keyboards), Clare Lindley (violin, keyboards, guitars, vocals), Alberto Bravin (vocals, guitars, keyboards, drums), Oskar Holldorff (keyboards, vocals), and Paul Mitchell (trumpet, percussion). Until 2009, the band functioned primarily as a studio project led by Spawton and co‑founder Andy Poole (bass, keyboards, guitars), who left the group in 2018. Over the years, Big Big Train have worked with a variety of lineups and guest musicians. They have released sixteen studio albums and six EPs. After beginning as an independent act, Big Big Train were signed to Giant Electric Pea from 1993 to 1998, while also distributing their music through their own website. Their sixth album, The Underfall Yard, received significant acclaim within the progressive‑rock community and marked the start of a more stable lineup. In August 2015, the band performed their first live concerts in seventeen years at Kings Place in London. These shows were voted Event of the Year by readers of Prog magazine. On 21 March 2016, the band released Stone & Steel, a Blu‑ray featuring footage from their 2014 rehearsals at Real World Studios and four songs from the Kings Place performances.
