Amarok

Amarok is a Polish art‑rock project founded in 1999 by guitarist, multi‑instrumentalist, and vocalist Michał Wojtas, together with guitarist Bartosz Jackowski. Between 2001 and 2004, the group released three internationally distributed albums. From 2003 onward, Amarok gradually evolved into Wojtas’s personal creative vehicle, with the project continuing under his direction. With more than two decades of activity, Amarok has established a strong presence within the art‑rock and progressive music landscape. The group has released six studio albums, with the 2017 record Hunt significantly expanding their recognition both in Poland and abroad. The album’s atmospheric sound, emotional balance, and clear echoes of classic Floyd‑influenced textures helped define Amarok’s reputation. Guest contributions included Colin Bass (Camel) and Mariusz Duda (Riverside, Lunatic Soul). In 2019, Wojtas collaborated with British choreographer James Wilton, resulting in Amarok’s fifth album, The Storm, created for Wilton’s stage production of the same name. By 2021, the project expanded into a full band with the addition of Konrad Zieliński (drums) and multi‑instrumentalist Kornel Popławski. Later that year, Amarok released their sixth album, Hero. In 2024, Amarok issued their seventh studio album, Hope. The record features ten compositions developed over a span of two decades, showcasing the project’s continued willingness to explore new stylistic directions while maintaining a high artistic standard. The album reinforces Amarok’s position as a group capable of blending experimentation with accessible, emotionally resonant songwriting.
