Corpus was a hard‑rock and psychedelic band from Corpus Christi, Texas, formed in 1969 by William Grate, Richard Deleon, James “Beaver” Castillo, and Frudy Lianes. They played local venues and worked closely with lyricist Gilbert Peña Jr. In 1971 they released their only album, Creation a Child, a mix of blues‑rock, heavy psych, and early Southern‑rock influences. Recorded in a single studio session and pressed in just 1,000 copies, the album has since become a sought‑after rarity. Despite their brief existence, Corpus left behind a distinctive snapshot of Texas underground rock in the early ’70s.
