Oasis

Oasis are an English rock band formed in Manchester in 1991. The original lineup consisted of Liam Gallagher (lead vocals), Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs (guitar), Paul “Guigsy” McGuigan (bass guitar) and Tony McCarroll (drums). Liam later invited his older brother Noel Gallagher (lead guitar, vocals) to join as a fifth member, completing the formation. Noel became the band’s principal songwriter and de facto leader for their first four albums. Oasis are regarded as the most globally successful group of the Britpop era and one of the most influential rock bands of all time. The band signed with the independent label Creation Records in 1993 and released their debut album Definitely Maybe (1994), which topped the UK Albums Chart and became the fastest‑selling debut album in British history at the time. Their second album, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? (1995), featuring new drummer Alan “Whitey” White, arrived during a highly publicized chart rivalry with Blur, dubbed the “Battle of Britpop”. The album spent ten weeks at number one in the UK, became an international success, and ranks among the best‑selling albums of all time. It is the UK’s third‑best‑selling album and the country’s best‑selling album of the 1990s. Throughout the 1990s, the Gallagher brothers were frequent subjects of tabloid coverage due to their public disputes and chaotic lifestyles.
