Anders Buaas

Anders Buaas (born 1974 in Larvik, Norway) is a Norwegian composer, guitarist, and multi‑instrumentalist whose career spans rock, metal, progressive music, and cinematic instrumental composition. Active since the 1990s, he first became known within the Norwegian rock and metal scene, performing in several local groups, including the hard‑rock band Bløff—which gained national attention following a legal dispute with Coca‑Cola—and the heavy‑metal outfit Absolute Steel. Buaas’s technical skill as a guitarist led to extensive international touring work. For many years he performed as a live guitarist for former Iron Maiden vocalist Paul Di’Anno and former Judas Priest frontman Tim “Ripper” Owens, while simultaneously building a reputation in Norway as a session musician and producer involved in numerous album projects. In 2017, Buaas shifted his artistic focus toward instrumental progressive music with the launch of The Witches of Finnmark, an ambitious trilogy inspired by the 16th‑ and 17th‑century witch trials in northern Norway. The project marked a stylistic departure from his earlier rock‑oriented work, embracing symphonic arrangements, atmospheric textures, and influences reminiscent of Mike Oldfield and film‑score composition. His later releases continued this narrative and conceptual approach. Tarot (2021) presents 22 instrumental pieces corresponding to the Major Arcana, while The Edinburgh Suite (2022) offers a two‑part symphonic exploration of Edinburgh’s Old and New Towns. His 2025 album, Trollringen, draws on a historical Norwegian murder mystery, further refining his blend of folk‑inspired motifs, progressive‑rock structures, and cinematic orchestration.
