Tuck & Patti are an American jazz duo made up of guitarist William Charles “Tuck” Andress (born October 28, 1952, Tulsa, Oklahoma) and vocalist Patricia “Patti” Cathcart Andress (born October 4, 1949, San Francisco). Together they have built a long‑standing career defined by intimate arrangements, technical finesse, and a uniquely personal musical chemistry. Tuck Andress and Patti Cathcart first met in 1978 during an audition in San Francisco. Before forming their duo, Andress studied classical music at Stanford University and worked as a session guitarist with The Gap Band. Cathcart, also classically trained, had previously performed with The Brides of Funkenstein. The two married in 1983 and settled in San Francisco, where they initially played in a rock‑and‑roll cover band. Despite receiving early offers from record labels, they chose to wait, focusing instead on refining their sound as a duo. Their breakthrough came in 1987, when they signed with Windham Hill Jazz, a subsidiary of Windham Hill Records. Their debut album, Tears of Joy, received significant airplay on both jazz and pop radio stations across the United States. Several more albums followed on Windham Hill Jazz before the duo moved to Epic Records in 1995. Later releases appeared on Windham Hill and 33rd Street Records.
