Psychotic Waltz

Psychotic Waltz is an American progressive metal band formed in 1988 in El Cajon, California. The band first came together under the name Aslan, inspired by the character from C. S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Using money earned from local shows and T‑shirt sales, they recorded a self‑titled demo in 1986. The tape quickly circulated through the European metal‑trading scene, earning strong reactions from fanzines and German metal fans. When they discovered another band using the same name, they adopted the new name Psychotic Waltz and recorded a four‑song demo in 1988. This second demo also gained traction in Europe, helping the band build a dedicated following. In 1990, the group released their independently financed debut album A Social Grace, which reached Europe through a licensing deal with the German label Rising Sun Productions. The album received enthusiastic reviews and was even named “album of the month” in several European magazines, solidifying their reputation as a rising force in progressive metal.
