The Seekers were an Australian folk‑pop and gospel group formed in Melbourne in 1962. They became the first Australian pop act to achieve major chart and sales success in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Their classic 1960s lineup featured Judith Durham (vocals, piano, tambourine), Athol Guy (double bass, vocals), Keith Potger (twelve‑string guitar, banjo, vocals), and Bruce Woodley (guitar, mandolin, banjo, vocals). The group scored multiple Top 10 hits during the 1960s, including “I’ll Never Find Another You,” “A World of Our Own,” “Morningtown Ride,” “Someday, One Day,” “Georgy Girl,” and “The Carnival Is Over.” Australian music historian Ian McFarlane described their sound as bright and upbeat, noting that it sat between genres — too pop‑oriented to be purely folk, yet too folk‑rooted to be considered rock. In 1967, The Seekers were jointly named Australians of the Year, the only group ever to receive this national honour.
