Rick Miller

Canadian composer and multi‑instrumentalist Rick Miller began his solo career in the mid‑1980s with the New Age album Starsong, released in 1984 and notable for selling approximately 30,000 copies. He continued exploring atmospheric and melodic soundscapes on subsequent releases, including Windhaven (1987) and Interstellar Passage (1998), followed later by the EP No Passion, No Pain (2009). These early works established his interest in ambient textures and cinematic instrumental writing. After spending the 1980s and 1990s refining his craft at Sound Design Studios in Toronto, Miller gradually shifted toward the style that had shaped his musical upbringing: atmospheric progressive rock. Influences such as Genesis, Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues, The Alan Parsons Project, and Steve Hackett played a central role in this transition. With support from friends and family members, he began composing music that blended 1970s‑inspired prog with modern production and introspective themes. From 2004 onward, Miller released a steady sequence of progressive rock albums, reaching seventeen full‑length titles with the 2026 release Temporal Illusion. Many of these recordings feature recurring contributions from musicians Sarah Young (flute), Barry Haggarty (guitars), Kane Miller (violin), and Mateusz Swoboda (cello), who helped shape the sonic identity of his later work.
