My Dying Bride

My Dying Bride are an English doom metal band formed in Bradford in 1990. Over the course of their career, they have released fifteen studio albums, five EPs, a demo, a box set, four compilations, a live album and a live CD/DVD. Alongside Anathema and Paradise Lost, they were one of the pioneering forces behind early 1990s death‑doom and gothic metal. Together, these three bands became known as “The Peaceville Three,” named after the label that originally signed them. My Dying Bride formed in June 1990 in Bradford, West Yorkshire, with Andrew Craighan (guitar), Rick Miah (drums), Aaron Stainthorpe (vocals) and Calvin Robertshaw (guitar). Craighan and Miah had previously played together in the band Abiosis. After six months of rehearsals, the group recorded their debut demo Towards the Sinister, produced by Tim Walker of Voltage Records. Its title was taken from a line in their song “Symphonaire Infernus et Spera Empyrium.” Their first official release followed soon after: the single “God Is Alone,” issued by the small French label Listenable Records.
