After the release of Memphis Moon in 2016, Phil Bee and his band spent several years touring extensively throughout the Benelux and Germany. As a result, it took some time before plans for a new album began to take shape. Eventually, in late 2017 and early 2018, the group returned to the studio — and not just any studio. For the album HOME, they chose the renowned Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum. The album was mixed by audio engineer Ronald Prent, a prominent figure in professional studio production. On this third release, Phil Bee’s Freedom presents a sound that reflects the group’s established musical identity: a synthesis of 1960s and 1970s jazz and soul elements combined with a strong blues foundation. The band classifies this approach as Contemporary Blues, a style that has earned them multiple awards and led to their appearance in the semifinals of the International Blues Challenge in Memphis.
