Synæsthesia

Synæsthesia was a Canadian ambient project formed by industrial musicians Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber as a side project of their main band, Front Line Assembly. Keyboard magazine described the project as one that “explores dark tribal ambient sounds; the composers have a flair for cinematic electronica and favour epic pieces that unfold slowly.” Leeb and Fulber began working together under the Synæsthesia name in the 1990s. Due to contractual restrictions, they were initially unable to reveal their involvement. As a result, the first two albums, Embody and Desideratum, were credited to “R. Deckard,” a reference to the protagonist of the film Blade Runner. Their identities were officially acknowledged with the release of the third album, Ephemeral, which credited Leeb with the music and Fulber with programming. The album blends symphonic passages, traditional rhythms and natural soundscapes with darker electronic textures. Synæsthesia incorporated samples from various musicians as well as from the film Fire in the SkyDesideratum is Synæsthesia’s second album of ambient and industrial music, released on October 17, 1995, by Cleopatra Records. Produced by Leeb and Fulber, the album has a total running time of 139:15 and received a four‑out‑of‑five‑star rating from AllMusic.
