Zombi

Zombi is an American electronic music duo from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, consisting of Steve Moore (bass, synthesizers) and Anthony Paterra (drums). The group frequently uses looping techniques to build multi‑layered compositions. They have toured with Don Caballero, Isis, Orthrelm, The Psychic Paramount, Daughters, Red Sparowes, These Arms Are Snakes, Trans Am, and Goblin. They are currently signed to Relapse Records. In 2006, the band also signed with the Belgian label Hypertension Records to release Surface to Air on vinyl. Moore previously played in Microwaves, a metal/no‑wave band from Pittsburgh, and has toured with Red Sparowes. Paterra is a former member of the Pittsburgh band The 1985. Their track “Sapphire” was remixed by Norwegian DJ/producer Prins Thomas. Zombi’s sound draws inspiration from film‑score composers John Carpenter and Goblin, electronic pioneers Tangerine Dream and Vangelis, and progressive‑rock groups such as King Crimson and Genesis. Their 2011 album Escape Velocity shows clear influence from Italo‑disco and Krautrock. After touring with Goblin in 2013, Zombi’s music shifted toward a more rock‑oriented direction on subsequent releases. The band’s name is taken from the Italian title of George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead (Zombi).
