Edhels is a French progressive rock band associated with the Musea label, known for its symphonic and instrumental approach to the genre. Formed in Monaco in the early 1980s, the group originally consisted of Marc Ceccotti (lead guitar, keyboards), Jean‑Louis Suzzoni (rhythm guitar, keyboards), Noël Damon (keyboards), and Jacky Rosati (drums, percussion). Their music has often been compared to the atmospheric and instrumental style of bands such as Djam Karet, while also drawing influence from Genesis, particularly the guitar work of Steve Hackett, and from King Crimson. Edhels released their debut album Oriental Christmas in 1985, establishing their blend of symphonic textures and melodic guitar‑driven arrangements. The follow‑up, Still Dream (1988), marked a step toward a more individual sound, expanding the band’s compositional range and refining their instrumental identity. The 1991 album Astro Logical introduced a shift toward a more keyboard‑focused and new‑age‑leaning sound. After its release, keyboardist Noël Damon left the group and was replaced by Jean‑Marc Bastianelli. With this revised lineup, Edhels recorded Angel’s Promise in 1997. Drummer Jacky Rosati later departed and was succeeded by Yannick Chavatier, while Lionel Routier joined on bass and guitar, expanding the ensemble. In 2000, the band issued The Bursting, an album recorded much earlier in 1981 but released for the first time at the turn of the millennium. This archival release offered insight into the group’s formative sound and early development.
