John Hiatt

John Robert Hiatt (born August 20, 1952) is an American singer‑songwriter whose work spans new wave, blues, country and roots‑rock. Over the course of his career he has earned nine Grammy nominations and received numerous other industry honors. Hiatt began his professional path in Nashville as a staff songwriter for Tree International. His breakthrough came when Three Dog Night recorded his song “Sure As I’m Sittin’ Here,” which became a Top 40 hit and led to his first recording contract with Epic Records. Since then, he has released 22 studio albums, along with compilation and live recordings, building a reputation as one of America’s most respected songwriters. Hiatt was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, the sixth of seven children in a Roman Catholic family. His childhood was marked by profound loss: his older brother Michael died by suicide when John was nine, and his father passed away two years later after a long illness. Music and IndyCar racing became his escape, with early influences including Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, and various blues artists.
