Huis

Huis is a progressive rock project from Québec, Canada, founded in 2009. The name carries a dual meaning: in French it refers to “home doors,” while in Dutch it simply means “house.” The group was initiated by Pascal Lapierre (keyboards) and Michel Joncas (bass) following an inspiring trip to the Netherlands, which motivated them to develop and record musical ideas they had been shaping for years. Huis began as a studio‑focused collaboration between Lapierre and Joncas. As the project evolved, three additional musicians joined: William Regnier – drums, Sylvain Descoteaux – vocals, Michel St‑Père – guitars (also known for his work with the band Mystery), Each member contributed distinct musical elements, helping to define the group’s sound. Huis performs progressive rock with symphonic influences, drawing inspiration from the classic prog era of the 1970s. Their music prominently features:Hammond organ, Moog synthesizers, Mellotron textures. These elements give their compositions a vintage character while maintaining a modern production approach. The band is known for carefully structured arrangements, melodic development, and a blend of atmospheric and dynamic passages. The project’s origins in Québec and its conceptual link to the Netherlands reflect the band’s international influences. Huis positions itself within the tradition of symphonic progressive rock while incorporating contemporary sensibilities, resulting in a sound that appeals to fans of both classic and modern prog.
