Leo Leoni, founding member and guitarist of Gotthard, has long been regarded as one of the most passionate and authentic rock musicians of recent decades. His project CoreLeoni reflects his love for timeless classic rock — music rooted in nostalgia, big riffs and pure emotion, but presented with a modern edge. On September 27, the band will release their second album, CoreLeoni II. The album features early‑era Gotthard songs reimagined in a fresh sound, two brand‑new tracks and a cover of John Lee Hooker’s “Boom Boom Boom.” Since the release of their first record, The Greatest Hits Part 1, CoreLeoni has acted as a bridge between the raw energy of analog guitar rock and contemporary studio production. The band not only channels the spirit of the early ’90s, but also the camaraderie and stage chemistry that defined that era. CoreLeoni is made up of close friends and long‑time collaborators who share Leoni’s history and musical vision. The lineup includes vocalist Ronnie Romero (Rainbow, Lords of Black), drummer Hena Habegger (Gotthard), guitarist Jgor Gianola (ex‑Gotthard/U.D.O./Jorn Lande) and bassist Mila Merker (Soulline). Together they show that classic rock can sound vibrant and powerful without feeling old‑fashioned. Early Gotthard material gains a completely renewed sonic identity in their hands.
