Monkey3 is an instrumental rock band from Lausanne, Switzerland. Monkey3 began in 2001 as a jam‑band community in Lausanne. The core line‑up soon solidified around Picasso (bass), Walter (drums) and Boris (guitar). The trio recorded their first full‑length album, Monkey3, in 2003, which was released the following year by the Belgian label Buzzville Records. In 2005, dB (keys and sounds) joined as a permanent fourth member. The band released their second album, 39Laps, in 2006 (Buzzville Records), followed by the EP Undercover (2009), the live DVD Live at Aventicum documenting their performance at the Rock Oz’Arènes Festival (2009), and the album Beyond the Black Sky (Stickman Records, 2011). In 2013, Monkey3 signed with Napalm Records and released The 5th Sun. Founding bassist Picasso left the band in 2014 and was replaced by Kevin. With this line‑up, the band released Astra Symmetry (2016), Live at Freak Valley (2017) and Sphere (2019), all through Napalm Records. In 2021, Kevin departed and was succeeded by Jalil on bass. In October 2025, Monkey3 collaborated with the French trio Mars Red Sky under the name Monkeys on Mars, releasing their first EP, Monkeys on Mars, a heavy psychedelic outer‑space project.
