Cirrus Bay

Cirrus Bay is an American neo‑progressive rock project founded in 2001 in Buckley, Washington by guitarist and composer Bill Gillham. The group began as an acoustic duo featuring Gillham and vocalist Sharra Gillham (later Sharra Acle), performing original material in local cafés and small venues. These early performances were characterized by melodic, acoustic arrangements built on harmonically rich songwriting. The project expanded when drummer and recording engineer Mark Blasco approached the duo with an interest in helping them document their music. His involvement marked the transition of Cirrus Bay from an acoustic act into a full band for studio recordings. Over time, additional vocalists and musicians contributed to the project, while Gillham remained its central songwriter, producer and multi‑instrumentalist. As a recording ensemble, Cirrus Bay developed a more elaborate sound influenced by classic progressive rock, drawing comparisons to artists such as Genesis and Spock’s Beard. Their studio releases incorporated symphonic textures, layered arrangements and extended compositions, distinguishing them from the more intimate acoustic performances that continued to represent the live duo format. Following various lineup changes, the acoustic incarnation of Cirrus Bay eventually featured Bill Gillham and Anisha Gillham. The project continued to release albums independently until Gillham’s passing on 17 April 2022, after which Cirrus Bay’s recorded legacy remains a notable contribution to modern American progressive rock.
