Chic

Chic (stylized as CHIC) is an American disco band founded in 1972 by guitarist Nile Rodgers and bassist Bernard Edwards. Between 1972 and 1979, the group released several of the biggest hits of the disco era, including “Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)” (1977), “Everybody Dance” (1977), “Le Freak” (1978), “I Want Your Love” (1978), and “Good Times” (1979). The band saw itself as a rock group for the disco movement, one that embraced the ideals of peace, love, and freedom. In 2017, Chic received its eleventh nomination for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. As of 2025, Rodgers continues to perform with the group under the name Nile Rodgers & Chic. Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards met in 1970 while working as session musicians in New York City. They formed a rock band called The Boys, later renamed The Big Apple Band, and performed frequently around the city. Although their demos attracted interest, they were never able to secure a record contract.
