Circuline – The Best off Music

Circuline is an American crossover progressive rock band formed in early 2014 following the breakup of the prog tribute group Downing Grey. When that project ended, keyboardist Andrew Colyer, guitarist Bill Shannon, and drummer Darin Brannon decided to continue working together and began developing original material. They were soon joined by former Downing Grey vocalists Billy Spilane and Natalie Brown, completing the initial lineup. Work on the band’s debut album began in February 2014. Colyer, Shannon and Brannon collaborated with guitarist and songwriter Randy McStine (Lo‑Fi Resistance, Sound of Contact, The Pink Floyd Experience), who contributed to the writing process. Bassist Matt Dorsey (Sound of Contact) recorded most of the bass parts and handled mixing duties for the album. Later that year, Paul Ranieri joined as the group’s permanent bassist. Circuline released their first album, Return, on April 24, 2015. The band supported the release with a short tour across the northeastern United States, including dates with the American progressive rock band Glass Hammer. Following the tour, Circuline began developing material for a second album while maintaining an active live schedule throughout 2015. Musically, Circuline focuses on concise, tightly structured compositions rather than extended multi‑part epics. Their sound is characterized by rich keyboard layers, strong vocal harmonies and a modern crossover prog approach.
