The Watch is a five‑member progressive rock band from Milan, Italy, known for a musical style rooted in the classic progressive rock of the 1970s, with a particular affinity for the sound and aesthetics of early Genesis. Since 2001, the group has released eight studio albums. Their seventh album, Seven, includes a guest appearance by former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett. The band’s work is characterized by strong melodic writing and energetic arrangements, elements that also define their reputation as a compelling live act. A significant part of their concert activity is devoted to the series “The Watch plays Genesis”, in which the band performs material from Genesis’ 1970–1977 period, covering albums from Trespass through Seconds Out. Their approach to interpreting this repertoire has attracted considerable attention from Genesis enthusiasts and a wider progressive rock audience, leading to extensive touring across Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada. The Watch is frequently praised for its ability to recreate the atmosphere of early Genesis performances. Vocalist Simone Rossetti is noted for a dramatic, Gabriel‑like delivery that many listeners consider the closest modern equivalent to Peter Gabriel’s early vocal style. Combined with the band’s instrumental precision, their performances aim to evoke the adventurous and emotionally charged spirit of Genesis’ formative years.
