United Progressive Fraternity (UPF)

United Progressive Fraternity (UPF) is an Australian progressive‑rock collective formally established on 31 March 2014. The group emerged after the dissolution of Unitopia, whose final release was Covered Mirror Vol. 1. With the band’s breakup, the planned second volume was abandoned, but several core members chose to continue the musical and conceptual direction under a new name. Following Unitopia’s disbandment, vocalist Mark Trueack, guitarist Matt Williams, drummer Dave Hopgood and percussionist Tim Irrgang joined forces with multi‑instrumentalist Guy Manning (known for his work with Manning, The Tangent and Parallel or 90 Degrees). Together they founded United Progressive Fraternity, aiming to preserve the thematic and artistic spirit of their previous band while exploring a broader musical palette. UPF released their debut album, Falling in Love with the World, in 2014. The record features contributions from several guest musicians, including two major figures from the progressive‑rock world: Jon Anderson (Yes), Steve Hackett (Genesis). The album continues Unitopia’s focus on socially conscious and environmentally oriented lyrical themes, addressing issues such as ecological responsibility and the human condition. Musically, UPF adopts a somewhat heavier and more expansive sound while retaining the melodic and conceptual depth associated with their earlier work.
