Avandra

Avandra is a progressive metal band founded by Puerto Rican musician Christian Ayala, who initially developed the project as a solo endeavor around 2008. The group evolved into a full band with the release of Avandra’s debut album Tymora in 2017, when guitarist Luis Guillbot, bassist Gabriel Alejandro Rodríguez, and drummer Adrián Arroyo joined the lineup. The band’s second album, Descender, was released in 2019 through the Finnish label Blood Music, significantly expanding Avandra’s international audience. Their rising profile led to an invitation to perform at ProgPower Europe 2020, although the festival was ultimately cancelled due to the COVID‑19 pandemic. During the global shutdown, Avandra began work on their third album, Skylighting, which was released in November 2020 by the Dutch progressive‑metal label Layered Reality Productions. The album was written and recorded under pandemic conditions, shaping both its themes and its production approach. In early 2021, the band started developing their fourth album with new bassist José Miguel Vázquez. While recording the material, Avandra received a renewed invitation to perform at ProgPower Europe 2022, held from 29 September to 2 October. Their fourth album, Prodigal, was made available as an exclusive early release at the festival and scheduled for worldwide distribution on 18 November 2022 in both CD and digital formats. Avandra is recognized for its melodic approach to progressive metal, conceptual storytelling, and atmospheric sound design, positioning the band as a notable presence within the modern prog‑metal landscape.
