IO Earth is a progressive rock project founded in Birmingham, United Kingdom, in 2007 by multi‑instrumentalists Dave Cureton and Adam Gough. The two musicians have worked together since their early teens, having met at school at the age of twelve. By the time they were fifteen, they were composing and performing original material at small local venues with a rotating group of friends and relatives. Cureton and Gough draw on a wide range of musical influences, including rock, classical, jazz and contemporary popular music. Early material was strongly guitar‑oriented, reflecting inspiration from instrumental rock artists such as Steve Vai and Joe Satriani. Over time, their work developed into a broader, genre‑blending style that incorporates orchestral elements, electronic textures and contrasting stylistic motifs. Throughout the band’s evolution, drummer Richard Cureton, Dave’s brother, has remained a consistent member. In 2004, Cureton and Gough began developing material for what would become their first studio album. They later entered the studio with producer and engineer Miguel Seco to refine and record the project. Their self‑titled debut album, IO Earth, was completed after nearly two years of work and features twenty tracks with contributions from several guest musicians, including vocalist Steve Balsamo.
