Casey Stone

Casey Stone (born 1970, Iowa) is an American recording engineer and mixer known for his work in film scoring, jazz, and independent music production. His career spans studio engineering, score recording, and long‑term collaborations with a wide range of contemporary composers. Stone developed an interest in both music and electronics at a young age. He began guitar lessons in elementary school and performed in local bands throughout his teenage years. A formative experience occurred when he visited a recording studio at age ten while his mother was working on demo sessions; the environment sparked his long‑term fascination with studio production. After high school, Stone enrolled at the University of Southern California, completing a Bachelor of Science in Music Recording. The program combined general studies, music theory, and technical training in audio engineering. During his time at USC, he became involved with the university’s Film Scoring Program, engineering sessions for student composers and gaining early experience in score recording. Following graduation, Stone worked as a freelance engineer in Los Angeles. His early projects included jazz recordings—among them sessions with drummer Billy Higgins—as well as student films, low‑budget scores, artist demos, and independent albums. He also held runner and assistant engineering positions at several Los Angeles studios, including Image, Sound Chamber, and Mad Hatter Studios. As Stone’s focus shifted increasingly toward film music, he began contributing to larger productions. His first studio feature was Bio‑Dome (1996) for composer Andrew Gross, followed by work on Boogie Nights (1997). In 1998 he engineered his first score for composer John Ottman on Halloween H20. The early 2000s brought further visibility through projects such as Bring It On (2000) with composer Christophe Beck. Over the years, Stone has collaborated with numerous composers, including Jeff Morrow, Lucas Vidal, Tim Davies, Chris Bacon, H. Scott Salinas, Alan Ari Lazar, Lior Rosner, David Benjamin Steinberg, Adam Schiff, Deborah Lurie, Mark Kilian, Jake Monaco, Joe Kraemer, Haim Frank Ilfman, and Orlando Perez Rosso. More recent clients include Michael Abels and Nicholas Britell.
