Nine Skies is a French progressive rock band known for blending rock, pop, jazz and cinematic prog into emotionally driven, narrative‑focused music. Their debut album Return Home (2017) introduced a concept exploring interconnected urban lives, human fragility and the absurdities of modern existence through a wide palette of musical textures. Their second album, Sweetheart Grips (2019), expanded the band’s artistic scope with a double‑album centered on the WWII tradition of soldiers placing personal photographs beneath transparent pistol grips — the so‑called “sweetheart grips.” The story follows a young soldier coping with trauma and post‑traumatic stress, and the album features guest appearances by Craig Blundell, Clive Nolan, Dave Foster, Riccardo Romano and others. The release also supported the suicide‑prevention charity Ian’s Chain. In 2021, Nine Skies issued Live @ Prog en Beauce, capturing the band’s dynamic stage presence, along with the acoustic album 5.20, which included contributions from Steve Hackett, John Hackett and Damian Wilson. Their 2023 album The Lightmaker tells the final chapter of Rudy’s journey through his past lives. The record serves both as a philosophical concept piece and a tribute to founding member Eric Bouillette. It features an impressive roster of guests, including Marco Minnemann, Adam Holzman, John Mitchell, Kristoffer Gildenlöw and others.
