Like Wendy is a Dutch musical project rooted in progressive rock and neo‑prog. The name Like Wendy is derived from the Laiquendi, the “Green Elves” from the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. The project emerged during the 1990s revival of progressive rock, a period in which the genre existed largely outside the mainstream and commercial expectations were modest. Like Wendy was initially conceived as a full band, but from the first album onward Bert (Martien) Heinen became the project’s sole member. As was common in that era, early releases appeared on cassette and later on CD‑R, since pressing professional CDs was too costly for independent artists. After a productive start around 1995, the project stalled following the 2005 album Endgame. Only much later did Like Wendy return with new material. After Endgame, Heinen attempted to bring his music to the stage. The live‑oriented material began to drift stylistically from progressive rock, prompting him to launch a new band under the name Atlantic. Their single Control gained some attention, though not enough to break into the charts. Balancing work commitments with a hobby band proved challenging.
