Once Upon a Time in My Mind Project is an independent music and animation initiative based in Montreal, Canada. The project operates as a small‑scale creative collective focused on combining experimental music with hand‑drawn and digital animation. It was conceived as a platform for artistic exploration, allowing its members to develop audio‑visual works outside traditional commercial frameworks. The project is centered around two core contributors: Pat Fortin — vocals, keyboards, illustration and animation, Ben Hedgewater — guitar and bass, In addition to the main duo, the project has collaborated with several guest musicians, including: Stéphane C. Fortin — drums, Rick Fall — vocals, Jocelyn Gagnon — guitar and bass. The group describes its sound as “progressive acid pop”, a hybrid style that incorporates elements of: electronic rock, metal, pop, classical influences, blues‑based phrasing. This mixture results in a genre‑fluid approach that emphasizes atmosphere, melodic experimentation and visual storytelling. Once Upon a Time in My Mind Project functions as both a music outlet and an animation workshop. The visual component—primarily created by Pat Fortin—plays a central role in shaping the project’s identity, with animated sequences accompanying many of the musical pieces. The project’s online presence serves as a space for ongoing experimentation, where new compositions and animations are released as standalone works or as part of thematic series.
