The Green

The Green is a reggae band formed in 2009 on Oahu, Hawaii. Their sound blends dub‑heavy roots reggae, smooth lovers’ rock, and contemporary pop and rock, often incorporating Hawaiian musical and lyrical references. The current lineup consists of Caleb Keolanui (vocals), Ikaika Antone (keys/vocals), Zion Thompson (guitar/vocals), Brad Watanabe (bass/vocals) and Jordan Espinoza (drums/vocals). The group has released five full‑length studio albums. The Green formed on Oahu in 2009. A defining feature of the band is its four lead singers. The core group of singer‑songwriters first came together through frontman Caleb Keolanui and former guitarist J.P. Kennedy, who are first cousins and previously played together in a band called Next Generation. They were joined by guitarist Zion Thompson and keyboardist Ikaika Antone, who had both been members of Stir Crazy. After that band split up, the pair connected with the cousins, and—while all were missing their home of Hawaii—they formed The Green. Kennedy explained the band name: “We wanted a name that didn’t really point you in any direction. It’s just a color; it makes you figure out what you want it to mean.” Songwriter Brad Watanabe was added on bass, and producer Leslie Ludiazo joined on drums. With four distinct vocalists, four songwriting voices and a polished pop‑infused roots reggae sound, The Green quickly became a popular local act on the island.
