Way Station

Way Station is a Ukrainian post‑rock/post‑metal band formed in 2010 by Nikita Yudin. The band’s musical style has been described as instrumental rock, post‑rock and post‑metal. Their work is often compared to God Is an Astronaut and Maybeshewill. During live performances, the band uses custom visuals for each song, and Nikita occasionally plays guitar with a violin bow. The current members are: Nikita Yudin – guitar, Denis Shvets – drums, Artem Kryvenko – bass guitar. The origins of the band trace back to 2005, when Nikita was studying at the Dnipropetrovsk Conservatory of M. Glinka and performing with fellow students. The group applied to the young‑bands competition “Слухай Чернігівське”, and for the band name Nikita used the title of his favorite childhood book, “Пересадочная Станция” (Way Station) by Clifford D. Simak. The band reached the competition’s top ten, and their song “Зима” was included on a CD compilation released by the local radio station. The band name was later changed to Way Station, matching the original English title of the book. In 2009, Nikita moved to Kyiv and began searching for new musicians, marking the second stage of the band’s development. In 2011, with an updated lineup featuring Vitalii Yermak (drums) and session bassist Viktor Rayevsky, the band supported Maybeshewill in Kyiv. This was their first performance under the name Way Station. Shortly afterward, bassist Vasiliy Starshinov, who had previously played with Nikita in Dnipropetrovsk, joined the group.
