Peppy Castro

Peppy Castro is an American singer, songwriter, multi‑instrumentalist and performer, regarded as one of the early figures in the psychedelic and garage‑rock movement of the 1960s. He first gained national attention as a founding member of The Blues Magoos, achieving his initial chart success at the age of seventeen. Over the decades, Castro has built a diverse career spanning rock performance, musical theatre, commercial composition and studio work. Castro emerged in the mid‑1960s as a key member of The Blues Magoos, a band associated with the rise of psychedelic rock. Their early success established him as a recognizable figure in the American rock scene. His visibility in the music world led to a role in the original Broadway production of Hair, further broadening his artistic profile. As a songwriter, Castro’s compositions have been recorded by a wide range of artists, including Diana Ross, Kiss, Cher and others. He has also contributed extensively to commercial music, writing and performing hundreds of jingles for major brands such as Budweiser, Chevy, Bounty, Nestlé Crunch and Kodak. His work in this field earned him industry recognition, including an Emmy nomination. Castro’s studio vocals have appeared on numerous platinum‑selling albums, reflecting his long‑standing presence as a sought‑after session musician. Throughout his career, Castro has been an original member of several groups, including: The Blues Magoos, Balance, Wiggy Bits, Barnaby Bye — a group later inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. He has also collaborated with a wide array of artists across rock, pop and theatre, including: Laura Branigan, Michael Bolton, Liza Minnelli, Ronnie Spector, Peter Allen, Paul Stanley (solo), Gene Simmons (solo), Ace Frehley (solo), Joan Jett, Buzzy Linhart, Rex Smith, Richie Havens, John Denver, Aldo Nova, David Johansen, Darlene Love and Jay and the Americans, among others.
