Santana

Carlos Humberto Santana Barragán (born July 20, 1947) is a Mexican‑American guitarist best known as a founding member of the rock band Santana. Raised in Mexico, where he developed his early musical foundation, he rose to prominence in the United States during the late 1960s and early 1970s. With Santana, he helped pioneer a fusion of rock and Latin American jazz, combining melodic, blues‑based guitar lines with percussion‑driven rhythms influenced by Latin American and African traditions, including instruments such as timbales and congas. Santana experienced renewed commercial and critical success in the late 1990s. Rolling Stone ranked him No. 20 on its 2015 list of the 100 greatest guitarists, and in 2023 placed him at No. 11. He has received ten Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammy Awards, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998 along with his band. Santana was born in Autlán de Navarro, Jalisco, Mexico, on July 20, 1947. He began learning the violin at age five and the guitar at age eight, taught by his father, a mariachi musician. His younger brother, Jorge Santana, also became a professional guitarist.
