Octopus was a German progressive rock band formed in 1973 in Frankfurt am Main. In the early 1980s, the band shifted toward a more commercial hard rock style, including German‑language lyrics. They released four albums between 1977 and 1981, three of them on Sky Records. Founded by bassist Claus‑Dieter Kniemeyer, vocalist Jenny Hensel († July 25, 2024), and her husband Pit Hensel († April 10, 2023) on guitar, the band performed extensively alongside many well‑known German acts such as Birth Control, Guru Guru, Eloy, and Can during the early 1980s, including appearances at larger festivals. After numerous lineup changes and a stylistic shift toward commercial rock, the band disbanded in 1983.
