Popa Chubby, born Ted Horowitz, has been delivering his fierce, hard‑edged brand of blues‑rock for more than three decades. Since launching his career in 1994, he has become known as a powerful guitarist whose fiery, emotional playing continues to grow in intensity. With his shaved head, tattooed arms, goatee, and a performance style he famously describes as “the Stooges meets Buddy Guy, Motörhead meets Muddy Waters, and Jimi Hendrix meets Robert Johnson,” he has carved out a unique place as one of the most recognizable figures in modern blues‑rock. Throughout his career, Popa Chubby has pushed forward with determination, building a loyal international following and establishing himself as a creative force who thrives on evolution. A native New Yorker, his earliest gigs took place in the city’s punk scene, where he played guitar for a wild performance artist known as Screaming Mad George — a show filled with horror‑themed theatrics and over‑the‑top visual effects. Even in those early days, Horowitz brought the same intensity and attitude that would later define his blues‑rock persona.
