Bacamarte is a Brazilian symphonic and progressive rock band originally formed in 1974 by three schoolmates. Due to the young age of its members, the group dissolved shortly after its creation. In 1977, guitarist and composer Mário Neto revived the project with a new lineup, and this formation recorded the material that would become the band’s landmark album Depois do Fim in 1978. Concerned that the prevailing disco trend of the late 1970s would overshadow the album’s reception, Neto chose to delay its release. After encouragement from a friend, the recordings were submitted to a local radio station in 1982, leading to the album’s official release in early 1983. Depois do Fim later became recognized as one of the most celebrated works in Brazilian progressive rock. A second album, Sete Cidades (“Seven Cities”), was issued in 1999, consisting of material recorded during the 1980s. This release is generally regarded as a Mário Neto solo project, featuring contributions only from Neto and keyboardist Robério Molinari. In later years, members of the original lineup reunited for select performances and occasional collaborations, continuing to work under the Bacamarte name and preserving the band’s legacy within the progressive‑rock tradition.
